OPERATIONAL & HANDLING PROCEDURE FOR EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANT

  1. OBJECTIVE

To lay down the procedure for operation of ETP.

  • SCOPE

This SOP is applicable in Engineering for operation of ETP.

  • RESPONSIBILITY
ETP operators/ Engineers : To follow the procedure
  • ACCOUNTABILITY

  • PROCEDURE
    • Operation of Areation Tank:
      • Switch ON the blower.
      • Effluent water comes from Primary Settling Tank outlet into this tank through gravity.
      • With detention period of around 4 hours the BOD and COD of water starts decreasing and comes within permissible limit.
      • Water goes into Secondary Settling Tank through gravity from outlet of this tank.
    • Operation of Collection Tank:
      • Water comes from outlet of Secondary Settling Tank through gravity into Collection Tank.
      • When the water level reaches 50 percent of the tank the pH should be checked which should be around 7.2.
      • Then allow the water to go into Dual Media Filter through pump.
    • Operation of Dual Media Filter:
      • Open valve no 3, 2 & 7 and butterfly valve no 1 & 2 of sand filter for 15 minutes and close all other valves till fresh water comes from outlet of this tank for backwash of sand filter.
      • Switch “ON” the bore-well of submersible pump.
  • Open valve no. 6, 7 & 8 and butterfly valve no. 1 & 2 for around 15 minutes (or till the fresh water comes from the outlet of this tank) and close all other valves for backwash of carbon filter.
    • Switch “ON” the bore-well of submersible pump.
    • For regular wash of Dual Media Filter from Raw Water, open butterfly valve no. 1.
    • Open valve no. 1 & 4 and butterfly valve no. 2 and close all other valve.
    • Switch “ON” the submersible pump for around 15 minutes or till the fresh water comes from outlet for sand filter.
    • Open butterfly valve no. 1 & 2.
    • Open valve no. 5 & 9 and close all other valves for carbon filter regular wash.
    • Switch “ON” the submersible pump for around 15 minutes or till the fresh water comes from outlet of this media.
    • For treating the water from collection tank open the butterfly valve no. 1 & 2.
    • For open valve no. 2, 3, 5, 7 & 9 and close all other valves.
    • Switch “ON” the pump.
    • Water comes to Dual Media Filter through valve no. 7 and no. 3 into sand filter then to Carbon
Filter and clear water goes through butterfly valve no. 2 into final collection tank.
    • Operation of Equalization Cum Neutralization Tank:
      • Switch “ON” the blower.
      • Start mixing line with stirrer in Tank 1.
      • Start mixing Alum to another Tank 2.
      • Start mixing Polyelectrolyte in Tank 3.
      • Effluent water comes through inlet of equalization cum neutralization tank through gravity.
      • When the water level of equalization cum neutralization is half or more, pH is checked (pH will be around 4.5).
      • Add Lime into this effluent water till the pH value increases to 10 and mix properly.
      • Add alum to decrease the pH up to 7.2 and mix properly.
      • Add Polyelectrolyte and mix properly so that the formation of Flock and suspended solid should be settled properly into primary settling tank.
      • Now the maintained pH water goes to primary settling tank through pump.
    • Operation of Filter Press:
      • Mixed sludge comes from outlet of Sludge Collection Tank.
      • Open all nozzles of Filter Press.
      • Sludge comes through inlet pipe of Filter Press and solid particles of Sludge filters from their PP Cloth Filter and liquid of Sludge pass out through Filter Press nozzle and finally collected into initial collection tank.
      • After sludge is collected into Filter Press, close the outlet valve of Sludge Collection Tank.
      • Open the valve of compressed air so as to dry the sludge at the earliest.
      • After drying the sludge, remove sludge into bag and dump into hazardous waste sludge pit.
    • Operation of Initial Collection Tank:
      • Effluent waste water comes from inlet of initial collection tank through industrial waste HDPE pipe.
      • Effluent water gets collected in tank.
      • Effluent water goes to oil and grease trap tank through pump from outlet of this tank.
    • Operation of Oil and Grease Trap Tank:
      • Effluent waste water comes from outlet of initial collection tank through pump.
      • Oil and grease is trapped through launder of this tank.
      • Effluent water goes to Equalization cum Neutralization tank through gravity from outlet of this tank.
      • Oil and grease is collected from top surface of this tank.
    • Primary Settling Tank:
      • Effluent water comes from outlet of equalization cum neutralization tank through pump to Primary Settling Tank.
      • Solid particle settle at bottom of this tank and rest water pass through tube settler into aeration tank through gravity.
      • From bottom of this tank, settled solid get collected into sludge collection tank through pump.
    • Secondary Settling Tank:
      • Water comes from outlet of aeration tank through gravity into Secondary Setting Tank.
      • After the detention period of around 20 minutes settled solid particle of water settle and clear water pass through tube settler and finally goes to collection tank from their outlet.
      • From bottom of this tank, water goes into aeration tank through re-circulation pump.
      • From bottom of this tank, settled solid get collected into sludge collection tank through pump.
    • Sludge Collection Tank:
      • Water comes into this tank from bottom of Primary Settling Tank through gravity and from bottom of Secondary Settling Tank through pump.
      • When the tank is around 75% full with sludge which come from Primary & Secondary Settling Tank, switch “ON” the Agitator for 30 minutes.
      • After this, open the outlet valve of this tank so that sludge can go into Filter Press.
